Skyscraper (Old Story)

Skyscraper
By: Shaire Blythe

Their final screams were no what compared to the sound of the crash. They didn’t even get to finish. Their voices got droned out mid-impact. I didn’t scream. I didn’t even see the semi truck coming towards us on the opposite side of the road.

The road was so small. Why had it been so small? And it had to have been us. Why had it have to have been my family?

I lost them all. There was no more Mimi or Jay or Dad and Mom. There was just me, Jenaya, in a blink of an eye. Never before had I taken into consideration the saying: you never know what you got until it’s gone. But then, once I woke up in the hospital two weeks later, I knew what that meant more than I desired to.
